Sleep Apnea or Snoring Disorder
For the vast majority of snorers it is not a health threatening condition. On the other hand, snoring can be an indication of a serious health issue for some individuals. This condition is known as sleep apnea. Simply put, sleep apnea is the disturbance of breathing so that the individual cannot get in enough oxygen. The individual may exhibit choking or gagging. This makes the sufferer wake up many times during the night. The person who has sleep apnea cannot remember these episodes when he or she wakes up in the morning.
The only way to find out whether or not you have this disorder is for someone else to watch you as you sleep. Ask this person to take note of any episode that causes breathing problems or causes you to wake up. It is possible for a person with sleep apnea to wake up refreshed but then to feel very tired throughout the day. Another sign of sleep apnea is to have dry mouth on waking. If you have any suspicion you may have this serious condition you must speak with your doctor.
